September 9, 2011 - October 9, 2011

Dallas-based Pakistani artist Simeen Farhat and Houston-based Iraqi artist Mohammed Al Shammarey come togother in "Word, Object, Motion," an exhibition of contemporary Islamic art. Both artists take inspiration from classical Persian and Urdu poetry. Mohammed Al Shammarey's black and white photographs are inspired by the teachings of the medieval Persian mystic, Jalal al-Din al-Rumi while Farhat’s wall sculptures, created from wood and/or cast resin, form three-dimensional manifestations of Urdu and Farsi poems. Through the different media in which they work, the works of both artists explore the subjects of human struggle and emotions and freedom of thought and expression.
